What a disappointment

GJ Cup organizers on Saturday sent letters to all invited teams confirming the cancellation of the GJ Cup which was to tip off in a fortnight.Below is the press release.

“From late 2013 ,planning began on one of the most exciting events to take place on the local basketball scene in recent years. As the local coordination team of the GJ sports Bonanza, we have to admit our disappointment on the decision by the title sponsor to pull out of the event at the last minute.

Full funding was assured for the event from accommodation, meals, allowances and indeed the prize money by the sponsor,Dubai based GJ Sports.
As such several teams had expressed interest to participate, of which 16 were selected to be part of the show case. These teams had, as of 30th January 2014, confirmed their participation in writing.

All indicators were that the event was a go as late as Sunday 2nd February 2014, by even getting green light to put up a bill board and print other promotional material. It therefore came as a surprise to us, the local organizing team, to receive word from the Title Sponsor on cancellation at this late hour, considering the resources, time and effort already put forth by all teams in preparing for this event
